Power Suits in Califtonia

My dear friends, Judy Gula, at Artistic Arifacts in Alexandria; and quilt artist and teacher, Cyndi Souder, of Moonlighting Quilts; have taken their inspired art quilt challenge, Power Suits, to the Road to California Quilt Show.  How wonderful for them that the exhibit has been so well received.  Many of my friend have quilts in the show and some of them have even been published in quilting magazines.   Which, of course, leads to my shortcomings!  I never finished my Power Suit challenge and have been missing out on all the fun with the exhibit.  Well, a new year, and a new resolution!  I am currently participating in a guild challenge for our 40th anniversary.  I am not an art quilter, but I will show you my results of my interpretation of "Pop That Thang" a Billboards top hit for 1973!  Do you remember it... More to come!

Snow!

Finally a bit of snow... and I do mean a bit!  But because it is so cold the lovely dusting stuck and made our world white.  I am planning on getting my projects organized this weekend... my goodness, January will be over before I begin acting on my resolutions!

Sometimes in life we find out about wonderful things after the fact.  In my case it is a band.  I recently heard a song by the band Copper Sails called Hiding Place.  I downloaded the song on my itunes and did a little research about the band, only to find out that they have retired.  No more new music, but I hope you enjoy their existing music!  Here is a youtube link -http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NoAglvZ2CcM

If it is cold, please bundle up and enjoy these winter days by the fire.

Home Remodeling Show Tomorrow!

We will have our booth at the 2013 Home Remodeler's Show this weekend.  I will have my eagle eye out for any new design ideas!  We currently have an odd dilemma at the Design Center . . .  what to do with quite a few spare and mismatched cabinet doors that we are storing in the warehouse.  I have done a little investigation on Pinterest and there were some cute ideas.  Here are a few of my favorites:

Cute Tray from a Cabinet Door                                                      Darling Easel

And my absolute favorite.... A Cabinet Door Lemonade Stand!

Do you have a great idea for using cabinet doors?  Please share your ideas in my comments.... you could be the recipient of a cabinet door if I love your idea!

What to do with those old shirts!

I just receive a request for donations of shirts to the Kennedy Center for a Fiber Exhibit by Finnish Artist Kaarina Kaikkonen which will be installed as part of the Kennedy Center's Nordic Festival.  The exhibit will be entitled "Are We Still Afloat?"  Kaikkonen is known for creating art out of recycled clothing from the community reflecting a theme of sustainability.  All I needed was a good excuse to clean out my husband's closet!

Here is an example of one of Kaikkonen's installations from 2012.  I love the soft impression of the art and how the light and color interact.

New Year . . . New Resolutions!

I am not a fan of New Year's Eve,  but I do love the promise of the New Year.  We have been blessed to have good weather this January and that gave me the opportunity to get out in the yard today.  With my DH's help we repaired and cleaned out the birdhouses.  The blue birds were not initially happy, but they will be ready to begin nesting in February.  Which leads into my resolutions!  Nothing written in stone, but my hopes and desires for the year to come:

      Organize all quilt UFOs.

      No new quilt projects.

      Replant the perennial bed.

Organize the playhouse as a potting shed.

      And if I dream....

Paint and work on the barn!

Well, there is something to be said for putting it in writing.  Happy New Year to all.
